The Movement and Dance Committee of the IOSFS Board will be offering some short online sessions over the coming year (2026) that provide an opportunity for Orff-Schulwerk practitioners to engage with a mindful movement and dance practice within an elemental music and movement/dance context. 

 

The first online event takes place on October 24th Is 2:00-3:00 pm with Raquel Pastor and Beatriz Hernández Sánchez and the theme is traditional and folk dances.

 

Traditional or folk dances constitute a cultural and artistic heritage that we can draw upon in our classrooms to convey social, educational and intercultural values, promoting tolerance and respect for cultural diversity and an understanding of realities different from our own.

 

This online session aims to explore in greater depth the teaching and methodological resources which, based on the principles of the Orff-Schulwerk, we can apply to the teaching of this traditional repertoire. Specifically, examples relating to two Spanish folk dances will be demonstrated: one focusing on the development of coordination, laterality and rhythmic skills, and the other focusing more on movements through space.

 

Beatriz Hernández Sánchez

Primary school music teacher and holder of a degree in Educational Psychology from CES Don Bosco, affiliated with the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She holds an advanced diploma in Dance Pedagogy from the Conservatorio Superior de Danza ‘María de Ávila’ in Madrid. Currently she is working on her doctoral thesis at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid on the teaching of traditional Spanish dance in primary education, approaching this work from the perspective of Creative Educational Dance.

 

Raquel Pastor Prada

PhD in Education from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). Graduate in Fine Arts (UCM) and qualified in Spanish Dance at Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático y Danza de Madrid. She is currently a permanent lecturer in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), teaching subjects related to the Pedagogy of dance and movement in Music Education.
