Movement and Dance Basics
Presented by The Movement and Dance Committee of the IOSFS Board
SESSION SEGMENT #2: Movement/Dance and Visual Arts
Saturday, 25 October, 8 and 29 November 2025, from 2:00 to 3:15 pm CEST (online)
The Movement and Dance Committee of the IOSFS Board will be offering short online sessions over the coming year (2025) that provide an opportunity for Orff-Schulwerk practitioners to engage with a mindful movement and dance practice within an elemental music and movement/dance context.
Human expression uses different artistic media, which are closely related through the parameters of time, space and energy.
Young children often combine these media when they hum and paint, move and sing, or imitate sculptures with their bodies.
Older children and adults are also inspired to integrate visual arts such as painting, drawing and sculpting with bodily movement.
This three-part online workshop will explore the background to this integration and provide examples.
Each session segment or ‘mini-course’ consists of three-to-four meetings, and it is recommended that you attend each of them.
To attend, please register under this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf8vfZc_csdWiKetWJE-QiGlQtmDv5ZUj_iMz_lajBwaR8dHw/viewform?usp=header.
The cost is: pay what you can. The proceeds support the IOSFS.

SESSION SEGMENT #2: Movement/Dance and Visual Arts
Upcoming Sessions (CET 2:00–3:15 pm):
-
Saturday, October 25 – Barbara Haselbach (Salzburg) & the M/D Committee
Sculpture, Dance ad Music
How can a sculpture inspire or become a dance? Or a piece of music?
How would you feel changing from one artistic medium to another or integrating them?
You are invited to find out!
-
Saturday, November 8 – Raquel Pastor (Madrid) & the M/D Committee
Painting and dance
An inspiring experience for working with abstract painting in music and dance classes. Explore, analyse, improvise, compose, reflect and enjoy creative transpositions through visual, plastic, musical and bodily language for the development of artistic expression.
-
Saturday, November 29 – Manju Durairaj (Chicago) & the M/D Committee
Movement, Art, and Emotion
This session explores the connection between movement, visual art, and emotion. Through movement, participants explore visual language, story telling, cultural significance, and personal connections that art can evoke.
Recommendations for all three workshops:
Please wear comfortable clothing for easy movement, bring painting materials (soft crayons if possible), blank sheets of paper, and small percussion instruments or household materials that can be used to make sounds as well as a melodic instrument.
This "mini-course" consists of 3 connected sessions. We recommend attending all for the fullest experience!
Please contact us if you have any questions. (info.iosfs@gmail.com)
